How to Avoid Having a Jumpy or Squished News Ticker

Are you using Internet Explorer and experiencing a problem whereby your vertical News Ticker is acting jumpy or  the text in it is looking squished?

This How To describes the steps to alleviate a News Ticker problem that occurs in Internet Explorer.

The likely reason that this problem is occuring is that the webpage the News Ticker is embedded in is either JavaScript or bandwidth heavy. What happens is that Internet Explorer cannot keep up with all the JavaScript and file downloads and it then starts to choke. Firefox on the other hand, which is a better browser, has no problem delegating a group of tasks to do and does not choke. Below are some solutions that will likely work for you.

Update: It looks like for some unknown reason Internet Explorer can also run into the same problem with webpages with certain layouts. See Solution #2 for this scenario.

Solution 1.
Point at your webpage the freely available Loading Time Checker which is available at WebsiteOptimization.com. This is a very good tool for investigating what is consuming the most bandwidth on your webpage and thereby slowing down its load time.

Solution 2.
Create an HTML table and reserve a row in that table to place your News Ticker. Your News Ticker should be the only item in that table's row. Many thanks to user condi4prez for the tip.

Solution 3.
Through trial and error, remove the third party JavaScript includes and/or images until the News Ticker pastie works correctly.

Solution 4.
Change the transition behavior of your News Ticker from being a  scroller to being a fader.
