__Digital Media Tips and Tricks__

Podcasting and vLogging are all the buzz in the media and entertainment industries, and its only going to get bigger. Portable media devices and advancements in connectivity continue to propel the shift of media consciousness away from TV and radio. At the moment its like the wild, wild west and the early days of the internet. And like the MP3 revolution and the commercializing of the internet, it is being led by tech-minded visionaries. Digital Media Tips and Tricks uses podcats and vlogs to explore and illuminate these developments. Topics are wide ranging, including: audio and video formats and codecs (eg. Divx, MOV, H.264, MPG-1, MPG-2, MPG-4); time-shifted media; delivering rich media to PDA, Smart Phones, Mobile Media Managers, Portable Media devices (eg. iPod, Video iPod, Creative Zen, Palm Lifedrive), RSS enclosure feeds linking to aggregators (eg. iTunes, iPodder, Fireant); DVD Authoring and Flash Interactivity tips and tricks; post production environments, media management, video editing, effects (FX), data compression, and portable media solutions; Media coverage of digital media related events (eg. Digital Life Expo, NAB Post Production Show, and Portable Media Expo)

This show is focused on tracking your subscribber hits. I have the ultimate solution for all you guys looking for a solution...

I went to the Apple Store in SOHO in NYC last night to check out the free vlog presentation. Two Pioneers, Ryanne from ryanedit.blogspot.com and Jay from http://www.momentshowing.net/. Ryanne has been since last November and it looks like Jay has been vLogging since March but I need him to confirm that with me. Regardless they are pioneers and are very important fixtures in the vlog landscape. I believe I called them the vLog fathers...

This show is dedicated to Ryanne :), actually its for people like Ryanne who struggle with inconsistent stats and inaccurate download readings. I am a big promoter of Podtrac, but one needs to diversify their tools and today I want to discuss webpasties.

Webpasties are my tool of choice for accurately tracking my user downloads.

http://codedsignal.com/ This episode charts back to the last show that I did on webpasties.com. The quality of the demonstration was not a high caliber instructional. As a result it got me to thinking about how media files should be compressed. As far as instructional compressed files go its best to have very limited motion or video for that matter and just deal with stills. Files with very little or no motion and a small color spectrum become significantly smaller file sizes compared to a high motion video with a wide ranging color spectrum. This is something we will discuss at a later date but its something to think about for the future.

the other part of the show deals with node101.com and how its the place for vloggers and potential vloggers to learn and commune.

http://codedsignal.com This show focuses on 5 free video distribution methods for video. It showcases other alternatives to iTunes. iTunes, Google Video, Fireant, DTV, Veoh, are all video based distribution solutions. As a content producer I use all five of these aggregators along with webpasties to strategically market and promote my work. As a consumer I use these applications to open my options in locating new media that of interest. Frappr is a beta application created by google. Frappr is basically their map solution (the answer to mapqwest). The added bonus and great feature of frappr is that it allows you to form a group and invite people to this group and map them on your map. It pin points their location on a global map and anyone apart of that group can see where everyone is situated.

Part of the Mac World Series of interviews, Michael Rubin discusses his book droidMaker, the inside story of George Lucas, his intensely private company, and their revolutionary work in filmmaking. Here is the story of how Lucasfilm's Computer Division make film and computer history, as well as Lucas' uneasy role in combining business, filmmaking, and technology. Providing an informed and informative, candid and revealing portrait that cuts through the mythology of George Lucas, here is the chronicled history of his vision made possible by the Star Wars films. Given unprecedented access to company records, personnel files, and photographs, Droid Maker is a definitive biography that is "must reader" for the legions of Lucas fans, as well as a privileged and seminal contribution to cinematic and filmmaking history.

Mac World Expo 2006, San Francisco, I interviewed some venders on the floor. This episode hosts 3 great apps:

Seefile is an excellent solution for file transfer. Its a software solution that allows you to use your host computer to serve files to your clients. This application will appeal to anyone who is in constant need to show files to remote locations, basically graphic artists, ad agencies, musicians...

MissingSync is a total replacement for the Plam desktop software that allows you to sync your PDA with your Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and other standard apps. It extends beyond these standard apps by including new functionality like itunes and enhanced features only found on the desktop.

Ovolab's Philink which is a telephony software/hardware solution for you to record phone messages onto your desktop. The application is rather powerful because it also allows you to podcast and schedual programming for 3rd party applications on your desktop.

In my travels to various Expos I have seen many great products and servies but Jambo has got to be one of the most important social solutions. This service will truly be a major player in the coming year. You heard it here first.

"Jambo Networks is the first company to design technology to let you see these invisible opportunities, letting people who share something in common to directly find each other and network face-to-face, when they want to. You don't even need to be on the Internet to use it. You just need Jambo, a WiFi device and a common interest. You join Jambo through an affiliation you already have -- your school, alumni association, a conference you attend, an online social network -- any trusted network based on a common interest."
